Product Overview

BEd
  1. The BEd series explosion-proof electro-hydraulic actuator is a compact drive unit that combines a motor, centrifugal pump, and hydraulic cylinder, specifically designed to control explosion-proof brakes.
  2. This product is widely used in the following industries:

Mining/Coal Mining: Suitable for underground coal mines (non-excavation areas) and locations with explosive gas and coal dust hazards. It is used as a brake drive system for belt conveyors and mine hoisting equipment.

Lifting and Transportation: Commonly used in braking control systems for lifting machinery and transportation equipment.

Metallurgical Industry: Used for braking and drive control in metallurgical equipment.

Port Machinery: Applied in the braking systems of port loading and unloading equipment.

Construction Industry: Suitable for braking control in construction machinery.

Petrochemical Industry: Ideal for oil refineries, chemical plants, gas stations, and other areas with explosive hazards such as methane, xylene, and other flammable gases or vapors.

  3. Key advantages include:

Explosion-proof and reliable: Meets ExdⅠMb (coal mine) and ExdⅡCT4 (flammable gas environments) explosion-proof standards, making it suitable for hazardous locations such as underground coal mines and petrochemical plants.

Leak-proof with a long lifespan: The motor features a non-oil-immersed design and a double-layer sealing structure to prevent leakage during long-term use.

Flexible installation: Can be installed at 0°, 90°, and 180° angles without requiring vertical placement, offering greater flexibility in site layout.

Quick start-up: The push rod moves rapidly upon power-up, and the braking response time meets the real-time control demands of typical industrial braking systems.

Structure & working principle

The BEd series explosion-proof electro-hydraulic actuator consists of key components, including an explosion-proof motor, impeller, piston, cylinder, and push rod.

Its operating principle involves two stages:

  • When energized (push rod extends to provide thrust): The motor starts, driving the impeller to rotate at high speed. The centrifugal force generated by the impeller draws hydraulic oil from the upper part of the piston to the lower part, creating pressurized oil. This pressurized oil pushes the piston and the attached push rod upwards until the rated stroke is reached, at which point the thrust is maintained, allowing the brake to release.
  • When de-energized (push rod returns to its original position): The motor stops, causing the impeller to cease rotating and the pressurized oil to dissipate. Under the force of the external load spring and its own gravity, the piston rapidly descends, causing the hydraulic oil to flow back from the lower part of the piston to the upper part. The push rod returns to its original position, and the brake is applied.

Installation & Compatibility

I. Installation Method

Installation Angle: Supports vertical (motor at the bottom), horizontal, and 0° to 180° multi-angle installation. The balance chamber must face upwards during installation.

Connection Adjustment: The push rod connection block is rotatable, and the Ed50–Ed301 fixing seat can rotate 90°.

Key Requirements: The piston rod cannot withstand radial forces. The connecting rod and the upper edge of the cylinder must maintain a minimum distance of 5 mm during operation.

Wiring Precautions: Never open the cover while the power is on. Ensure the cable and sealing ring hole diameters match.

II. Compatibility

Supporting Equipment: Primarily compatible with YWZ4, YWZ5, YWZ8, and YWZ9 series electro-hydraulic block brakes.

Other Applications: Suitable for valves, gates, pumps, ratchet mechanisms, clamping devices, and various lever mechanisms.

Duty Cycle: S1 continuous duty or S3 intermittent duty (load duty cycle ≤60%).

Environmental Requirements: Altitude ≤2000 m, temperature -20℃ to +40℃.

Advantages of BEd Series Explosion-proof Electro-hydraulic Thrusters Compared to Traditional Mechanical Brakes

I. Braking Stability
The hydraulic transmission ensures smooth, shock-free operation, effectively mitigating external impact forces. During operation, the brake pads on both sides maintain an equal retraction distance, preventing uneven retraction that could cause the pads to float against the brake wheel. In contrast, traditional mechanical brakes often suffer from uneven retraction and require manual adjustments to the braking force.

II. Response Speed
The system offers a sensitive and rapid response. The rise and fall time for various specifications ranges from 0.4 to 1.0 seconds (using the BEd series as an example), meeting interlocking control requirements under various operating conditions. It also supports operating frequencies up to 900 cycles per hour (c/h), making it suitable for frequent start-stop operations.

III. Service Life
With a fully enclosed design, the actuator provides strong resistance to dust and water. The piston rod is coated with hard chrome plating and features a double-layer protective sealing structure, reducing wear and corrosion. The motor is a non-oil-immersed structure with F-class insulation and excellent heat resistance. In contrast, traditional semi-enclosed designs offer poor dust and water resistance, are prone to corrosion, and have a shorter service life.

IV. Maintenance Frequency
The maintenance frequency is extremely low, essentially achieving zero maintenance. The fully enclosed structure eliminates the need for frequent hydraulic oil changes, while traditional semi-enclosed structures require periodic oil changes to prevent performance degradation. Only periodic checks of wiring tightness and oil levels every six months are required.

V. High-Load Performance
The actuator operates on a continuous duty cycle (S1), ensuring stable operation over extended periods without the risk of motor overheating or burnout. Traditional systems typically operate on an intermittent duty cycle (S3), with a duty cycle of only 15%, which can easily lead to motor overheating and potential burnout during prolonged use. The BEd series also features reliable overload protection, preventing motor or component failure even under overload conditions.
